BIM

Innovation in design – leading the way in complex and challenging projects.

Dowds Group are at the forefront of digital design, offering the most advanced expertise in Building Information Modelling. BIM has emerged as a proven means of providing this well-structured approach but only when complimented by a strict development protocol, collaborative team ethic and transparent information exchange controls.

With a blend of Chartered MEP Engineers and graduates, our in-house team has the capabilities to deliver complex design and build projects across Healthcare, Education and Leisure.

BIM STANDARDS AND COMPLIANCE

As a BSI BIM Design and Construction Verified ISO 19650 Tier 2 Contractor, we have developed a structured set of standards, procedures & protocols.

These utilise multiple software solutions to ensure compliance to the client’s BIM Execution Plans (BEP) for graphical and non-graphical data exchange.

BIM is a central part of our digital design service and designates the use of a single, integrated 3D model throughout the design and construction life cycle of a project. This allows clients, designers and project stakeholders to experience the building early in the design process.

Dowds Group utilise Autodesk Revit MEP software to design, coordinate, schedule and fabricate. Autodesk Navisworks Manage is utilised for clash detection, flythroughs and animated presentation visualisations.

Collaboration

Achieving true BIM is not just about having the right technology in place – a cultural shift in the way we work to an open collaborative environment that allows for knowledge to be shared is allowing us to lead the BIM agenda.

  • 3D MEP modelling to LOD 6 fabrication level of detail.

  • COBie and IFC exports for data capture to support operations, maintenance, and asset management.

  • Building Management Systems

  • Common Data Environment (CDE) platforms for sharing information.

Mitigating Costs & Risks

Our design process focuses on managing and sharing information effectively between the project design team, contractors and future users to reduce time, cost and risk in all phases of the project.

BIM is central for clash detection, resolving design issues before construction commences by utilising 3D models linking the architectural, structural and building services designs.

We thereby minimise the risk of costly design revisions during the construction phase.
